Happiness in Hawaii
A few years ago I had the pleasure of planning a destination wedding in Hawaii, and what a pleasure it was! Mikkel & Jeremy lived in Portland at the time and we were actually planning a local wedding until a few months into the process. The couple scratched our plans and decided they wanted a more intimate experience where they could stay for their honeymoon. I can think of much rougher places to plan a wedding for than the Big Island!!!
Mikkel & Jeremy wanted to incorporate some Hawaiian elements into the wedding but the focus was to really make sure their friends and family had a great time. On the wedding day itself we arranged for live Island ceremony music, leis waiting for guests on their ceremony chairs, a yummy menu featuring fresh local ingredients, a cake made with Lilikoi (a Hawaiian fruit), a fire dancer at the reception and amazing Hawaiian orchids gracing every aspect of the entire event.
The only challenge as a planner was dealing with vendors who were on “Hawaiian Time.” Thankfully, I learned this early on while coordinating and it wasn’t an issue on the wedding day. The ceremony was stunning, guests had a wonderful time and we all enjoyed a beautiful sunset!
