All About Bridesmaids!

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

If you have ever been a bridesmaid in a wedding before, you know that there is quite a bit that goes into it, beyond looking pretty at the altar.  There is helping the bride choose a dress that everyone loves, helping to plan the bachelorette party or showers, paying for hair, makeup, shoes, gifts and so on.  Being in the bridal party is certainly an honor, but that doesn’t mean it is cheap!

Take a peek at my segment that aired on KPTV earlier this week.  Kim Maus and I chat about how to keep costs down as a bridesmaid, and how to be a thoughtful bride.  She went through all this herself recently, as we are planning her own wedding for this coming September!

While we’re on the topic…if you haven’t seen the comedy Bridesmaids yet, this is one you do not want to miss! It’s a bit raunchy but laugh out loud funny!!

Stephani & Adam’s Teacher Themed Wedding

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Stephani & Adam were married on a perfectly sunny day in July at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Oregon.  They were an amazing couple to work with–super laid back and trusting, but still into the details and completely on top of it.  I remember when we were first planning and they described their perfect venue.  Everything they said  screamed The Oregon Golf Club.  When we first drove up, they were both grinning ear to ear and we knew we had found their ideal wedding space!

Both Stephani & Adam are local teachers in the area. They wanted their wedding to reflect them as people and them as a couple, so we came up with a teacher theme.  Stephani brought in her old teacher’s desk which we used as a darling gust book table.  All of the table numbers and “bride” and “groom” chair signs were actual chalkboards. The place cards were red apples with the seating assignment pinned on and there was a great big chalkboard listing the wedding party that guests would see as they were seated for the ceremony.

The wedding day went off without a hitch.  There was not a single hiccup and everyone had a great time.  The theme came together perfectly–it was charming but at the same time not too over-the-top, which can sometimes happen with overly theme-y weddings.  I absolutely loved working with these two and getting to know them both.  Stephani has the sweetest personality and Adam went with the flow and added a great dose of humor.

Kim + Andy’s Video Recap

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Kim + Andy’s wedding was set for greatness from the beginning. Kim’s family runs The Party Pro’s, a full service rental company located just outside of Portland. As if that wasn’t enough, Andy’s family owns and runs Chez Joly catering and restaurants. Needless to say, the decor, design and food was out of this world spectacular.

Andy and Kim are a fun couple with fun families. At every one of our meetings, there was an entourage that joined along and brought along laughs and smiles. Kim’s daughter McKenzie seemed to be the most excited person about the wedding, and donned a darling dress as she walked her mom down the aisle.

I think my favorite parts of the wedding were the fun swirl design going down the aisle and the GORGEOUS raspberry hued peonies that were overflowing on all the tables. Typically peonies would be out of season in Mid-July but we certainly lucked out.

Christina & Tyler…ENGAGED!

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

A few years back, Christina Palmer joined the Bridal Bliss team as a lead coordinator.   I clicked with her the moment we met…she is organized, detailed, personable and most of all, fun.  Christina’s clients rave about her and she does an outstanding job at every event.  Christina is a HUGE asset to Bridal Bliss and we appreciate her!

Christina has been dating Tyler for several years.  Tyler is also in the event industry and puts on most of the huge waterfront events like Blues Fest and The Rose Festival.  He is a great guy and he and Christina make a pretty amazing couple.

This past weekend Tyler popped the question in Walla Walla and Christina said YES!  He surprised her with a gorgeous ring in the underground cellar at the Zerba tasting room.  I’m anxiously awaiting the full story but it sounds pretty magical!

Christina, I am SO thrilled for you! A big congrats to you and Tyler!!

Let the planning begin!

Do you need wedding insurance?

When planning your wedding, you may not be thinking about the “what if’s” and protecting yourself from the unexpected.  I always suggest purchasing some sort of wedding insurance to my clients.  Policies can go as far as to cover you from weather and other acts of God.  Some can protect you from wedding vendors going out of business of guests hurting themselves on the venue premises.  These are all things you hope will not happen to your wedding but something to certainly think about.  Most of my clients will purchase a one day policy through their current homeowners insurance company.  If this is not possible or you are not a homeowner, two great companies to consider are Wed Safe and Wed Sure.

Groomzillas?

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Over the years, grooms seem to be getting more and more involved in the wedding planning process. In the past it would be somewhat common for me to meet the groom for the first time at the rehearsal.  More recently, most of the grooms we work with attend several of the pre-planning meetings and are much more concerned about the details. Guys are voicing more of an opinion on food, bar, entertainment and budget.  I personally think its great—its not just the bride’s wedding!

Take a peek at this segment I did with KATU news for more info about this growing trend!
