Pantone’s Color of the Year…Honeysuckle!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

Pantone, the world renouned authority on color, has released its color of the year.  This year…the winner is “Honeysuckle!”

I have to be honest, I initially wasn’t a huge fan of this color, it was a little too “bubble gummy” for me.  But…when I started fulling photos I really began to feel it! What do you think?

Matthew Christopher Trunk Show, February 4-5

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

As some of you may now, my mom owns Anna’s Bridal Boutique, a darling bridal shop in Lake Oswego.  She has some really fun events coming up, one of which is a Matthew Christopher trunk show.  What is a trunk show you ask?  It is a fun event when a designer comes to town and brings his/her entire collection.  If you have already had your fair share of dress shopping, its a really great opportunity to try on new and fresh designs.  If you are just starting your search, a trunk show is a good time to figure out what type of dress suits your body and help narrow down your options.  The best part?  All dresses in the collection are discounted for the weekend.

Matthew Christopher is not only a fabulous designer but he is a hilarious, fun and darling guy.  He will give you his honest opinion, suggest fun additions or changes, and even throw in a freebie or two.  If anything, you should go in just to meet Matthew and laugh a little bit.

If you are interested in attending the show on Feb 4-5, call Anna’s Bridal to setup an appointment.  503.636.1474.

2011 Wedding Trends

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

A new year means new wedding trends! I am frequently asked about what the current wedding trends are and what is new and cutting edge in the industry.  Below are my speculations on the top three trends for 2011.

  • Out of the Ordinary.  The past few years I’ve seen more and more brides stepping outside of the box and attempting to make their wedding unlike any of those of their friends.  The goal of today’s bride is to have a wedding that is unique and an event that her guests will really remember.  Whether this is achieved through a fun theme (vintage, old Hollywood glamour, or Mad Men-esque), entertainment (stand up comic, dance instructors, late night food trucks, etc.), a fabulous new venue or unexpected decor,  I really see unexpected details making a huge splash this season.

  • Simple, clean & elegant will make a comeback, with a bit of glitz and glamour.  Weddings the past two to three years have gone from super ornate and over the top to more of a DIY funky feel.  With the economy finally starting to turn, I think brides are feeling like they can splurge a bit more while still being tasteful.  I think simplicity can be so chic and also budget conscious at the same time.  With that being said….adding a bit of bling is going to have a huge showing this season.  Think Swarovski crystal accents on stationary, chunky broaches on gowns and statement necklaces.  Its more of a little pop of bling rather than over the top extravagance.

  • Childhood nostalgia and comfort will play a big part in wedding events.  Brides are planning events that feel warm and intimate with a sense of community.  Implementing family-style dinners, passed comfort food as appetizers, lawn games for outdoor weddings, or a dessert buffet with Oreos, Ho-Ho’s and Twinkies give your guests a feeling of nostalgia and encourages them let loose and have a great time.

When all is said and done, the biggest trend is that anything goes.  Have fun with your wedding and really try to make it a reflection of you as a couple.  My favorite weddings are those where the personities of the couple show through in all the details and it is apparent to everyone in attendance that the wedding is truly “them.”

Portland Bridal Show

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Portland’s biggest bridal show is coming up on January 15th & 16th, 2011.  The Portland Bridal Show is a great opportunity to check out any vendors you have left to book, taste cake samples, look at floral samples and get some great discounts.

If you’re planning on attending, make sure to stop by to say hi! We are right near the stage in a cute booth we share with Anna’s Bridal Boutique!
